Post Thanksgiving Cleanse (on a budget)

I think it is fair to say Thanksgiving has a tendency to get the best of us, and there is nothing wrong with that. But the days to follow can be uncomfortable, your clothing is a bit to tight or maybe your skin has acted out. It is an occurrence I am more than familiar with.

I want to enjoy the great food but at the same time get back to my regular confident self ASAP!
This is a little plan I follow from time to time to get my body back in to its regular flow. It is a quick and easy cleanse that is budget friendly and it not going to deprive you of the things you body needs.

Before I get in to this I should say that it is important to be safe and smart when undergoing a cleanse. Listen to your body, don't over do it.
I am not a doctor and the things mentioned in this post are my own options.
I recommend everyone take the time and do the research to find a system that is going to work for you.

I would love to do a full-on juice cleanse (there are so many great companies out there that provide a variety of complete plans) But to be 100% honest I am in no financial situation to afford such things.

I know the title says "Post Thanksgiving" but this is something that can be done at any time.. we all have off days, that is just life.

So here is what I do!
Make sure you are prepared. Head to the grocery store and grab the essentials. But make sure they are things you like and will eat. Forcing yourself to eat foods you don't and never will like is practically asking yourself to fail.
  • I am a big fan of the Boathouse Juices, they have great flavours and make it so easy to be prepared when hunger strikes. The ingredients are pretty clean and they are a fair price.

  • An alterative to purchasing the juices premade is making your own [note: you will need a juicer] you can find tones of recipes online. Smoothies are just as great [no juicer required] check out my KB's Eats section for some of my own.

  • Another clean essential is the Happy Planet Soups, they are a ready to go meal, all you have to do is heat. But I know of many other brands that are just as great, you just need to do some exploring.

  •  I make sure to pick up some kind of crackers of wrap (gluten free) to eat with my soup to make sure I am not depriving my body of the good carbs.  Mary's Crackers and Food for Life wraps are my go to options.

  • Throughout the day I like to bring along some veggies (carrots or green beans are more favourites) they are easy to handle and eat when on the go.

  • Other foods to consider include:
Avocado, Chai Seeds, Apple Sauce, Coconut Oil, Almonds or Almond butter & Goji Berries

Be Careful:
  • I wouldn't carry out this cleanse for more then three days. Restricting calories and other nutrients from your diet is not good for the long term. This is simply a good way to kick start and detoxify from a few days of heavy eating.

  • If you are going to be doing intense activity such as working out, you need to add some protein into the mix. I would suggest a couple eggs (even just the whites) in the morning, chicken or an other lean meat of choice or simply adding a scoop of protein powder into your smoothies.

Some things to consider.

  • I like to start and end my day with liquids meals, it makes digestion easier and allows your body to save energy. This is a good rule to keep in your everyday life, it is as simple as starting your day with a smoothie or ending it with a cup of soup.

  • Drink water and tea! lots of it, this will help to clean out your body. If you like you can add a slice of lemon into your drinks to help with the purification process.[especially when having it first thing in the morning with hot water]

  • Having a warm bath also helps to cleanse and calm the body. Try it during the first or second night, for an added benefit add some Epson salts.

  • Keeping up with some components of the cleanse in you day to day diet is a great way to instill and achieve that healthy body, mind and spirit.

Stay Positive and know this is not a diet it is a way to clean your body of the unwanted toxins.
