DIY: Dresser Chic

I have recently made the move to the big city. For the first time ever I have an apartment that is 100% my own, no roommate, no siblings, no parents [sorry mom & dad]. Living on my own in what I would say in an amazing location is by no means cheap, therefore I have made it my personal mission to do with what I have, great crafty and make my place well my own.

I have seen these dressers time and time again on various websites and I figured it was time to give it a whirl!

It is actually quite simple...
given you can get your hands on an old dresser. Maybe you have one hidden in your basement or perhaps you will find luck on Kijiji or at the local Value Village.

You are also going to need:
* A paint
primer
*Paint
*Wall Paper
*Exacto Knife
*Sand Paper
*Adhesive Spray
*ruler

First thing is first. You are going to need to take out the drawers and have some fun sanding it down ALL OF IT.
You don't need to go crazy just enough so that the wood is roughened down so the primer and paint will stick.

NOTE* If you don't plan of painting the entire dresser just do a quick sand over the area you would like to place the wall paper, as to add some texture and allow the paper to stick.

Once the dresser is sanded down it is very important to go over with a paint primer. Without a proper coat or two of primer the paint will easily chip and start to peel.

After allowing the primer to dry I would recommend giving it a full 24 hours.
 It is time to paint!

Once again you are going to want to wait for it to dry before you apply the wall paper.
*I didn't bother painting th
e area that I intend to cover with wall paper.
This is where it gets tricky.
You are going to need that exacto knife.
Measure out the areas you want covered and get to cutting! Be carful and precise!
 DON'T CUT YOURSELF!

The wall paper I found was said to have an adhesive on the back but just to be safe I also applied a fabric adhesive spay for the extra stick.

I wet the paper and applied the spray to the actual dresser for the best result. I then used a ruler to pull across the applied wallpaper to smooth it out and ride any air bubbles. And there you have it! Dresser chic.

Last but not least I purchased some matching knobs at a local hardware store to complete the look and pull it all together.

I am not going to lie, mine wasn't perfect but for a first time I would give myself and A for effort.
from afar it is a beaut.

Try it out, great creative and see what you can do with an old piece of furniture some paint and wall paper.
