Depending on how you look at it, I was lucky enough to have fallen sick on one of my days off. There are pros and cons to boths sides. I did spend the entire day sleeping in bed without having to worry about work, however the day was a complete right off. NOTHING WAS ACCMPLISHED.
I started thinking about it, what do I love/need when I am sick? What always makes me feel better. Obviously it depends on your sickness but generally there are certain things that I always go for while I am not feeling 100%.
So here it is my Doing it Right list for Sick Days
*Can I just say that being sick in the summer is a rare and horrible thing*
1) Water- Hydration is key on a regular day, so clearly you need to drink up when your body is under the weather. Carry a water bottle around with you, or leave it somewhere you will frequent throughout the day. Have some love for that H20
2) Tea- This stuff is magical. On top of all the healing benefits it has the hot liquid is so great for opening up your airways and getting more oxygen in to your body. Did I mention it is amazing magical stuff. Personally go for Green or peppermint on sick days. (If it is too hot in the summer heat for a hot cup of tea, then try it iced. The benefits are still quite substantial)
3) Shower- When I am sick I tend get cold. Even in the midst of the summer a warm shower can really make me feel so much better but for those of you who tend to get hot try a cold one. Feeling Clean when you are sick can make so much of a difference. A shower will not only clean you up but relax your body and help in the healing process.
4) Soup- If you can tell I am all about the hot liquids! When I am sick my appetite tends to diminish. But I will always have an appetite for soup. Especially chicken soup! Even if you are not a soup person my advice is to keep your food simple and clean, your body is working hard to heal, having to digest certain foods can take away a lot of energy from what is really important.
5) Sleep- I know we all have lives and sometimes a sickness isn't enough to put everything on hold BUT I am telling you when you can Sleep! Missing out on something that one time in order to get a proper night sleep will be so beneficial in the long run. Choosing sleep when you are sick will get you back at your regular life ten times faster. Even taking time to watch a movie and rest is a good second choice, your body needs time to heal and it can't do that it your are constantly moving.
Alright seeing as I am still all stuffed I am off to complete this loving sick day list so I can be back at it and in full health ASAP.
